Spiced Up IKEA Expedit

If you know me or have been following my crazy life then you know that my SHELVES drive me nuts...

I love them but decorating them is quite the adventure...

Place objects on shelve...step back and look...take objects off and move to another shelf...step back and look...REPEAT!! (for months)

Makes me "CRAZY"!!!

One of the shelves I have is the IKEA expedit and I love it because of the all the dividers...just if I can get them decorated to my satisfaction...
(Are we ever really satisfied???)

I vote NO!!!

My expedit has wicker them...and drawers and cabinets...which I love as well...great storage...It's just they make the darn things "White" and to me it's distracting...

See what I mean???

No matter where you put them the eye just stops...boring!!!

If you sit and look at something long enough you get an apiffany (my big word for the day)

I busted out some supplies...

It was time to give my expedit a makeover...

Don't you just love mod podge??

I took them boring...eye sore...white drawers/doors and gave them a much needed face lift...
(Boy do I wish mod podge could do that to my

Ready for the big reveal???

Taaa Daaa....

What a gave my expedit some chicness...

I went from BORING....

To fabulous....

Now I will stare at it as it sits on the wall across from my desk and work on getting the decor where I want it...But for now I don't have "WHITE" distracting doors/drawers...

I'm open to shelf decor ideas!!!

  1. I love all the texture and patterns you used!

  2. I found this article with "Remodelaholic" and looked at it, because we, too, own an Expedit. I think you have done a great job and this looks fantastic!!!
    Jule (from Germany)

  3. Great job. I'm going to pin it for future inspiration!

  4. Oh Yes! That is amazing! It looks 100x better. Please stop by and share this at my VIP party today...

  5. So glad that you posted about this...I loved it when I saw them in person...BIG DARN DIFFERENCE ;} I agree...maybe we should try Modge Podge for our
Decorating tip for the day: start my assigning a "function" to each in...stack of decorating books on shelf, stack of school books on another, small basket with office supplies on another, small bin with ribbons, etc. Does this help? Hope so...have a great weekend. {hugs} R

  6. that is awesome! We have several Expedit shelves at our house as I too, LOVE them! The door makeover was very cool and definitely adds some style. As far as your other shelves, I would hit the thrift stores to find some interesting vases that have some height. don't worry about the color as you can spray paint them. It seems to me that your items are too small and are not making the statement that you are looking for. Also, group them so they make a statement. I think it would be cool to have several pieces that are all the same color sprinkled throughout the bookshelf.

  7. That is awesome! You should contact Amy from Mod podge rocks and show her this never know she may feature it. Thanks for sharing with the newbie party.

  8. This cabinet is gorgeous! Your Mod Podging is so flawless. I'm so proud!

  9. Great job! It looks amazing! Shelf decorating is definitely an art in itself - maybe collecting a bunch of items in the same color {but different shapes and sizes} and doing the rest in neutrals would work? I also saw someone else that recovered all of her books so they were the same color - too much work for me but it looked amazing!!!
Thanks so much for linking up to The Creative Spark. I'll be featuring this on my facebook page today. Hope to see you again next week!
    Jenn :)

  13. WOW...Simply beautiful..You've done a great long did it take to dry?
I'm new in here.. learning each day..
can you see if you can cover all ur books in white and then redecorate with pastels/earthly tones..? I've seen that project somewhere,,cant remember though..all your accessories are great..The Inspire is awesome too.. I've seen someone put jute/burlap/twine around these letters for that cottage kinda look.I'm sure you''ll fig it out and make this shelf even more pretty and chic.. cant wait for more projects..
