I had this post planned for today and then got that good news that I was today's featured blogger so I wanted to give a BIG WELCOME to those of you that come to hang out with me.

Look at what I'm going to show you how to make today...

I made this antique looking photo canvas with a few simple craft supplies. All you need is Canvas, Mod Podge, Scrapbook Paper, Foam Brush, and Craft Paint

Oh, and your picture! 

I printed the words of "The Mr." and mine's song on a piece of photo paper with one of my favorite wedding photos. I also choose to do an 8x10. You know start small in case it doesn't work ;-)

First, I cut some trim out of scrapbook paper and made a border around my canvas with it using mod podge. 

Then I used spray adhesive to attach my printed photo to the canvas.

I lightly sprayed the canvas and let it sit for a minute until it was just tacky enough to attach my photo to the canvas. 

After I let this completely dry for about 30 minutes I put a couple layers of mod podge over the whole canvas. Let the mod podge dry completely between each layer.

After it was completely dry, I just took a sea sponge and just started dabbing some craft acrylic paint around the edges and across the photo. 

 That's all there is to it and now you have a cherish-able gift for anyone.

Valentine Candles

In the midst of all my packing and getting ready to move I found some pillar candles. What do you do when you find candles?? You make something, right?

Good thing I hadn't packed up that glue gun yet.

I created these simple Valentine candles with a few scrap supplies and embellishments. It's a very easy project especially when you are limited on time. Maybe you need to make a quick gift for someone, decorated candles would make the perfect gift.

I have some of this cute pink burlap that I bought at Michael's. It comes in the perfect size to wrap a candle. Then just wrap some twine around the center and add an embellishment of your choice. 

Simple and cute, huh?

You don't have any burlap? That's OK! Use scrapbook paper, it works just as nicely. I wrapped a crinkled piece of scrapbook paper around the candle and hot glued it. Then I too a piece of decorative scrapbook paper and cut out the scroll design part of the paper and wrapped it around the candle and glued it. I left some of the red paper on the top and bottom for some color. 

Play with your paper placement, there are no rules. "Life is about creating yourself!"

I just dressed up the candle with a piece of red and white twin and a little love button. 

This is the last one of my Valentine trio. I just love French script so I couldn't control myself in using it on my last candle.  I wrapped some red twine a couple times to form a band and added a twill flower.

The whole project took me 20 minutes and now I have a really cute Valentine centerpiece of candles. 

I did another simple candle decor that I will share next week, then that will be all the crafting I will be doing for awhile.We are getting ready to remodel our new home and I will be sharing that progress with you. Exciting stuff!!

Valentine Tree

I had all these cute ideas for Valentine's Day, darn moving put a damper on my plans. But, I did manage to get a few things done. My Valentine tree is one of them. It's easy to find twigs when you are surrounded by trees. The new house will be more challenging. 

This is a simple project and all you will need is a vase, moss, twigs and whatever you choose as ornaments. I choose glitter hearts. You know that glitter gets me every time. It's all about the bling-bling. 

I went and collected some twigs out of the yard and cut them to the size I wanted. This will depend how big and how much you want sticking out of your vase. 

Sorry about the messy background. This is what happens when you have to craft on your kitchen table. Can you say "YAY" for the new craft room I will have. 

After I got the twigs in the vase at the right height. I glued some moss at the top of the vase to fill in the open space and hold the twigs from moving around. It gives it a grassy feel, don't you think? 

If you ever played with moss you know how messy this stuff is, and I mean messy!!!

Now just add your ornaments and you have a beautiful Valentine Tree!

It's a quick, simple and easy way to dress up your table for Valentine's Day!!

Creative Holders

I have a problem with everything having a place. That includes my post-it notes. I have a cute little holder I have had for awhile but since I have been changing the decor of the office I wanted something that matched the room. With some decorative flair.

This is going to be an easy peasy project. Just some 5 x 7 plastic frames, scrapbook paper, ribbon and embellishments.

Take the "fake family" out of the picture frame. Which reminds me I have photo frames on my walls with fake families in them. ha-ha 

I just used the paper out of the frame as a template and cut out the scrapbook paper. 

Easy enough...

Now I just took some ribbon and hot glued it around the frame. 

Hot glued a pretty little flower. You can add anything, charms, bows, or maybe a small frame with a photo in it. Endless possibilities.

I just went for simple and glued my flower in the corner on the ribbon. 

It is perfect placement for the next step.

Just take off the backing of your post-its and stick it right on the frame. 

Cute, right???

Well, I didn't stop there. I had an extra plastic business card holder sitting around and decided to hot glue it to another plastic frame. And, slid in another piece of scrapbook paper.

Add some ribbon and a flower and you have a cute business card holder.

I think I may make a couple of these for gifts. What do you think???

Stenciled Canvas Curtains & Giveaway...

One of my main goals this year is to re-do every room in my house. It is time for new decor and since I am on a budget then most of it will be done by my own two little hands. I have been working on the home office and have hit the point that I was ready for some new curtains. So, off to Hobby Lobby and JoAnn Fabrics I went to buy some material to make some great ones to match the rooms decor.

Time to switch gears real fast. I came home to find an e-mail from Cutting Edge Stencils, asking if I would be interested in doing a review for them. Well, HECK YA! I get a stencil and get to craft and write about it. Now that is perfection. There are so many wonderful stencils and the one I choose was Entwined Allover. 

I very well couldn't stencil on the material I bought to make curtains so I had to come up with a new game plan. I am getting ready to turn a bedroom into a guest room so I will just make some curtains for that room. 

Now, I've never painted curtains before so I had to do a little research. Thanks to some wonderful fellow bloggers, I got some questions answered. Off to Lowe's for some painter's canvas.

My materials list: Painter's Canvas, Drop cloth, Foam rollers and Tray, Paint, and Stencil.

First thing I did was lay my canvas cloth on the floor and cut it in half straight up the middle 

I used Stitch Witchery to hem the cut edges of the canvas and to make the pocket for the curtain rod. I also ironed out all the wrinkles. I would suggest washing them first before you do anything to soften them up a bit. I am just too darn impatient and went to town. 

Now the fun begins! Whatever you do, MAKE SURE YOU LAY DOWN PLASTIC OR SOMETHING TO PROTECT THE SERVICE YOU ARE WORKING ON. The paint will bleed through.

Tape your stencil to your canvas using either painter's tape or masking tape.And, then get ready to roll your paint. Make sure you do not have a lot of paint on your foam rollers. You don't want to soak your cloth with paint. Go ahead ask me how I know? LOL

Just follow your pattern and move on down your curtains. I chose to paint the curtains black with an Apple Green trim. 

Not perfect but not bad for my first time. But, it is a much needed improvement to a window with no curtain on it.

So much better, don't you think?

I'm not keeping the purple decor because I decided to do the room in Apple Green and Navy Blue. But, sometimes you just have to decorate with what you have for now, and these vase are from my office when it was Apple Green and Purple.

It really is amazing how much of an impact a stencil can make and it is probably one of the cheapest ways to decorate your space!  And, not too mention all the wonderful things you can do with a stencil and paint. Don't just limit yourself to a wall. Stencil a pillow or throw rugs, table runner, or add a design to some furniture. Be creative!!!

I will tell you that it requires some time and patience, but I think that the results were definitely worth it. Here's a quick "How to Stencil" video to show you how easy it is!
