Kitchen Remodel - Beginning

We are getting ready to turn our small kitchen into a beautiful place to cook all those yummy recipes I find on Pinterest.

Remodel Kitchen

This is the color scheme I am going with, at least for now. I'm forever changing my mind and I blame blogland for that. So, I AM open to ideas.

Here's the remodeling plan, as it is in my head. Ummm, yeah! That could change too. But, this is where I rely on my bloggy friends for some great ideas.

I'm am sharing a couple views of the kitchen so you get a good visual of what we will be doing.

This is the view coming in from the garage, standing in the laundry room. I would like to add pendant lights over the island. I am painting the cabinets and I've been going back and forth between black or a dark brown. I think dark brown is winning. And, I want to do something with those hideous looking counter tops. I think I'm going to try the Granite paint for counter tops by Giani Granite. The decision is to do Chocolate Brown or the Bombay Black.

Now we are standing on the other side of the kitchen look towards the laundry room. As you can see I don't have a lot of cabinet space or counter space so this is going to be challenging. But, I can do it. The kitchen just got a fresh coat of paint and a new floor. On the list is new stainless appliances. The first to replace is going to be the fridge, hubby is already crying over no water dispenser. I'm dreaming of french door fridges, Lowe's here I come.

This view is standing in the corner of the living room.

We are standing in the living room looking in the kitchen. I would love to paint that back wall a "POP" of color. I'm thinking the burgundy or even a deep plum. See there I go changing my mind again. Don't laugh I know you do it too.

I also want to build an archway dividing the kitchen and living room. I have my builder BFF already working on the plans. Now that is exciting stuff. There will be 2 archways, one over the counter and one over the entrance in the kitchen with a pillar between the two. That probably confused you, huh? Don't worry, I will keep you updated.

Another view standing in front of the sliding glass door.

Here's the view when you walk in the front door, standing in the living room. An archway is going to make a huge difference.

Once I pick out the cabinet color and if I'm going to paint or stain. We will begin painting the cabinets this weekend. Exciting stuff so hang tight for an update.

Speaking of exciting stuff. Crazy Beautiful Life is going into retirement. So, welcome to...

Welcome to the Oasis...

We have dubbed our home the "OASIS"...Where we slip on down to with our friends in low places...(haha..sorry I had to go there)...I know DORK!!!

No! Really it's where I relax with hubby...family...and friends...and it's a definite work in progress...maybe by the time we get it the way we want it...it will turn into our retirement home...LOL

If you read the last post "Don't build me a bridge"...than you know we built a Pergola in our backyard...

Now it's time to dress it up and make it inviting....I'm thinking some outdoor curtains (off to bed & bath)...some lighting (we have an outdoor chandelier)...and some furniture (I have lots of patio furniture)....

Outdoor curtains...check...(too expensive to do the whole thing right now)...hooks to hang chandelier and tie backs...check...chandelier...check...outdoor curtain rods...check...ribbon to tie back curtains...check....

I just love the curtains...too bad they are so darn expensive...the front of the pergola is going to have to wait for curtains....(sad face)...It's OK...I love it anyways....

As you can see in the first photo I had two cast iron rockers with cushions sitting in the yard that I already pictured under the pergola...but it needed something else...Welllll, while I was at target they have all their outdoor furniture on clearance and I picked up a wicker love seat/with cushion for $124.00 that was originally $249.00...I already had some extra throw pillows and tossed them on the love seat for color...

Are you ready???

WELCOME TO OUR "OASIS"!!!!

LUVVV ITT!!!

We are going to eventually put in stone under and around the pergola...that might be next years "BIG" project...I can't wait to just sit back with a glass of wine and relax...

.DARN MOSQUITO'S RUIN EVERYTHING...

(wow my calf looks huge...bad angle..no really...lol)

I will have to figure out this skeeter thing...but I still plan on enjoying our Oasis...

Now a Before & After...

I hope you enjoyed our home as much as I enjoy sharing it with you...

WHERE DO YOU GO JUST TO SIT AND RELAX???
(That is skeeter free I hope)

Don't Build Me A Bridge...

Build me a PERGOLA instead....

When I talked to a dear friend of mine and he offered to design and build a pergola for me I was just ecstatic...I couldn't tell you how many gazebos w/canopies we have bought and the weather has destroyed...Talk about being ticked off...Well this year I didn't want a gazebo w/canopy...I want to build me a Pergola...

I have the perfect place for a pergola...Don't you think???

I can seeeee it already!!!

With the help of a dear friend (Lou) we got started...Lou sent me a materials list and off to Lowe's I went...Once it was delivered we got started...well not really "WE" but I did help....some....

I definitely didn't help dig those holes for the posts...I don't know where you live but in the South we have red clay for dirt....it is definitely not easy to dig a hole in...

Once the holes were dug it was time to set the posts and make sure they were all level....This is where I did help...I got to operate the "POWER TOOL"...look out...(hint: don't push the nail gun with your knees..OUCH)...but it was so fun....

YES!!! That gun was about as heavy as I am...but it was soo cool...I think I want one...(that wouldn't be good)...LOL

Now that the poles are all level we poured the cement (I got to add water...hehe)...and now we just have to wait a few days for them to set...

Lou drew out the scalloped edges of the top boards...he cut them out...sanded them...I just love the design...

Now it's time to add them to the posts...

SCREAMING with excitement....luvvvv luvvv luvvv it!!!!

There is more cutting...and more building going on....I can't even contain my excitement...

Almost done....I'm like a little kid on Christmas Day....

and here ya have it...Are ya ready???
(screaming)...
I CRAZY LOVE IT!!!

I have so many great things in mind to do with my new PERGOLA...
Now off to the store to get a few things....

Come back to see the "Oasis"...

WHAT HAVE YOU BUILT OR HAD BUILT THAT EXCITES YOU???

10 More Days....

After being without my hubby for almost a month...being sick with my ears (which is not better)...staying at a dear friends house...I'm 10 days away from moving into our new home...It still seems so far away...It makes it hard to blog when all you do is lay around and don't have your things (not to mention being sick)...

I didn't want anyone to think I fell off the face of the earth so I needed to blog about something...I actually miss blogging and chatting with other blog friends...(I'm such a bad blogger)...I am working on a project but you will have to wait until it's done :)

So in the meantime I thought I would give you a tour of our new home...(I welcome any thoughts or ideas)...

I really really really wish it had a front porch....(truck is not ours)....and the BIG rock is covering the well pump...never had well water so I'm a bit nervous...

Well let's go inside before I go on and on about what I would change about the outside (are we ever happy???...LOL)... This is a downsize for us from 2400 sq ft to about 1400 sq ft...So come on in!!

This is standing in the entrance looking into the living room...Love the stone fireplace (wish the mantle was bigger)...Maybe I'll paint it...How will my stuff ever fit..I guess it will be really time to purge...

Opposite the living room is the dining room...

Now on to the kitchen...it's the smallest kitchen I have ever had so this will be the real challenge to see how will I can do BIG things with small spaces...

NOT a fan of the white appliances...I have a black fridge (I just bought a little over a yr ago - crying) and microwave but it really won't go too well with the white stove and dishwasher...it will definitely be a challenge figuring out where to put all my kitchen things...(head slap) .. I can do this!!! (or so I keep telling myself)

OK!! Let's move on...off to the master bed and bath...

If anyone has had those awful lights in their bathroom then you know how ugly they really are...but I've changed them before and I can change them again ;-)

It was hard for me to get pictures of the other 2 bedrooms...they look super super little in the photos I did get...I'll try again next week when I get the keys (which will be in 6 days)...

Here's the 2nd bath...(with another ugly light fixture)

The deck on the back of the house is really big (well until I try to fit all my patio furniture on it) and a big backyard with a fire pit....

I hope you enjoyed the tour and I look forward to having lots of before & after pics...Which we ALL love!!! It will also be an "adventure" to watch me purge...and if you know me or been following "My Crazy Beautiful Life" than you will know that DOES NOT come easy for me :-)

I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING ANY DECORATIVE SUGGESTIONS!!!
(OR JUST A THOUGHT OR TWO)

Flower Power...

Not what you think...REALLY it's not...you don't believe me??? Here take a look....

Now don't be GASPINGGGG!!! It does belong to me...No seriously it does...Ok!! You can gasp if you want...I know..WHAT was I thinking???  LOOK at all them FLOWERS....Well the year was 2000...Yep that furniture is 11 yrs old and has always been in a formal living room or sitting room...There is a lot to be said about the quality of furniture....(or maybe no one was allowed to sit on it...~snickering~) I'm sure my daughter will chime in...

You want to see it up close don't you???

This furniture has been through quite a bit of moves since 2000...Here's it's first home for 5 yrs...

Floral and Oak that is a classic "Victorian" early 2000's style...Yikes!! And what's funny is looking at this photo I still have every single thing in that room...Oh good grief!! ~bowing my head in shame~ (Big Sigh)

Now where was I?? Oh yeah!! So in 2005 we (me & my furniture that is) traveled from Erie, Pa to Fort Mill, SC and set up shop in my cute lil condo...It was perfect for just me!!!

Now here comes the CRAZINESS!!! I met my husband and moved in with him that summer...yep..do the math 6 MONTHS...

In 2007 we moved to the northside of Charlotte and bought our house...and I set up a sitting room...

In 2010 we sold our home (long...loonngggg...llloooonnngggg...story) anyways we moved into a townhome...

And in December 2010 my husband took a job in Maryland...Are you laughing yet or crying...cause I was doing both...so now here we are in Maryland...

No matter how you look at it...it's all the same...flowers-flowers & more flowers....Oh I left part of this journey out...there were 2 more moves in there....(OK...all I can do is laugh) and NO my hubby is not military (he was but not since 1999)

Want an even BETTER LAUGH!!!
WE ARE MOVING AGAIN...back to NC ...

Where the heck was I going with this story??? Oh I know my "Flower Power" furniture...I'm ready for a change but I can't afford really good quality furniture at this time...(you know with my 8th move in 6 yrs) Ok...Now I'm Crying and yes I invite you to cry with me...

Happy thoughts!!! Since I can't afford new furniture and mine is in such good condition I was thinking of getting it covered...Getting it reupholstered is going to be wayyyy too expensive...and "no' I would never attempt that one on my own (and I've done some crazy things)...like dyed my carpet one time (another story and one word DISASTER)...So I was thinking slipcovers (when I think slipcovers I think how my mom covered furniture with sheets...Holy Moly)...and this is what else comes to mind "stretch pants" for the couch...

I can't even describe how that makes me feel...so hand me my anxiety medicine...that is awful...well maybe not awful but I just can't do it...

So I was looking around..there has to be a way to cover my furniture without breaking the bank and making it look like it wasn't covered in "spandex"...Look what I found...

It's perfect!!!...Don't you just love Pottery Barn...and for the low low price of $1698.00 + shipping I can have a new look..One word "CRAZY"....(I guess we are staying with flower power for a while longer)

I AM ACCEPTING HELP...DONATIONS OR JUST IDEAS!!!!
